The Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LODDCA) has sent four demands to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Ministry of Transport over rising road accidents.
In a statement on January 6, LODDCA said as the year 2026 began, there was a strong public expectation for a new direction in road safety-one focused on prevention, accountability, and meaningful stakeholder engagement.
Instead, the Association said the country continues to experience rising road crashes and fatalities, exposing serious gaps between policy, enforcement, and real safety outcomes.
LODDCA has expressed grave concern over NTSA’s so-called cosmetic joint operations, which were intended to enhance road safety but have instead degenerated into extortion points and centers of victimization for drivers.
“These operations rely heavily on human enforcement, creating opportunities for corruption, selective application of the law, intimidation, and harassment. Rather than preventing crashes, they have worsened compliance, eroded trust, and aggravated the already fragile transport ecosystem,” LODDCA said.
LODDCA stated that NTSA has not been taken despite repeated engagements on abuse of labour laws by some transport companies, particularly excessive working hours, unsafe working conditions, and exploitative operational demands.
The Association said this continued inaction directly exposes drivers, crew, and other road users to preventable danger.

Technology and the Silence of the Ministry of Transport
Further, LoDDCA said it has consistently advocated for technology-led enforcement, including the installation and effective use of road surveillance cameras and the reduction of excessive human presence on highways.
The Association explained that global best practice demonstrates that automated, transparent enforcement reduces corruption and improves safety outcomes-yet these recommendations remain largely ignored.
“We further note with concern the silence of the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Transport, despite their clear mandate to enforce labour standards and protect transport workers. This institutional indifference has normalized unsafe practices while shifting blame to drivers instead of addressing systemic failures,” LoDDCA said.

LoDDCA Demands to NTSA and Govt
LoDDCA, therefore, has called upon NTSA, the Ministry of Labour, and the Ministry of Transport to urgently:
“Road safety cannot be achieved through intimidation, extortion, or public relations exercises. Without decisive reform and genuine collaboration, the current enforcement model will continue to cost lives,” LoDDCA said.
LODDCA added that it remains committed to constructive engagement but will not remain silent as drivers are victimized and public safety compromised.
