Govt Issues Alert Over NYOTA App

The government has clarified reports that it is operating an app called “NYOTA App” for applications, registrations, and receiving funds.

In a statement, National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) said there is no official NYOTA App for applying, registering, or receiving funds.

NYOTA Any app claiming to be linked to NYOTA, such as NYOTA Fund, is fake and is designed to scam users and collect personal data.

“There is no official NYOTA App for applying, registering, or receiving funds.

Unsuspecting users risk exposing sensitive information such as national ID numbers, phone contacts, and financial details, which may lead to identity theft and financial fraud.

How Genuine NYOTA Project Operates

NYOTA is a legitimate Government of Kenya initiative implemented through the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts, in partnership with development agencies.

The project supports youth through skills development, entrepreneurship training, and employment opportunities.

“All official NYOTA communication is shared only through verified government channels and official NYOTA platforms,” officials emphasize

The project does not require applicants to download any app, pay registration fees, or provide personal information through unofficial platforms.

Public Urged to Remain Vigilant

Kenyans, especially young people, are urged to exercise caution when encountering online advertisements promising quick funding or easy registration under NYOTA.

“If it sounds urgent, asks for payment, or demands personal details, it is a red flag,” the advisory notes.

Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious apps and accounts to relevant authorities and to rely only on verified NYOTA social media pages and official government websites.

“Stay informed, verify information, and protect your personal data,” the statement concludes.
