Ida Odinga Sends Message to ODM as Internal Divisions Deepen

Mama Ida Odinga has delivered a heartfelt message to members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), urging unity, consultation, and preservation of the party’s founding ideals amid growing internal divisions.

Speaking on Wednesday, January 7, Ida paid a touching tribute to her late husband, Raila Odinga, whom she described as a man deeply devoted not only to his family, but also to ODM.

Mama Ida Odinga said, “Baba also had another love, and that was the love for ODM,” highlighting the central role the party played in Raila’s life and political journey.

In her message, Ida Odinga expressed appreciation to the party leadership, staff and supporters who stood with Raila Odinga throughout his political career and even after his death.

“I thank the party and all the staff who served Baba in different capacities, for their dedication to him in life and in death,” acknowledging the collective effort that sustained ODM over the years.

She noted that Raila valued teamwork and loyalty, and believed strongly in building institutions rather than personalities.

Leadership Built on Consultation and Fairness

Mama Ida reminded ODM members of Raila Odinga’s leadership style, describing it as firm, fair, and deeply rooted in consultation with the people.

“Baba ran ODM with dedication, with firm and fair hands,” adding that, “Raila ran ODM on the principle of constant consultations and always referring to the people,” Ida said.

Her remarks appeared to subtly caution against unilateral decisions and internal wrangles that could weaken the party.

Call to Preserve ODM in Raila’s Honour

As divisions continue to emerge within ODM, Ida Odinga urged members to rise above personal interests and safeguard the party’s unity for the sake of the country.

“It is my wish that we can preserve the party in his honour as a matter of service to our country.”

Her message serves as both a tribute to Raila Odinga’s legacy and a call to action for ODM members to uphold unity, democracy, and service to the people.
