The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 is nearing its completion, with teams having advanced to the quarterfinal stage after navigating the Round of 16.
The tournament, hosted by Morocco, began with 24 teams that qualified through a rigorous continental qualification process.
These teams were drawn into six groups of four, with the top sides progressing from the group stage to the knockout rounds.
Following the group stage, 16 teams advanced to the Round of 16, while the rest were eliminated.
The Round of 16 matches further reduced the field to eight teams, who have now secured places in the quarterfinals.
The final Round of 16 match was played on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, when the Ivory Coast defeated Burkina Faso 3–0 to book their quarterfinal spot.
This article focuses on the prize money guaranteed to teams that have reached the quarterfinal stage and beyond.
Initially, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that a total of USD 32 million (approximately KSh 4.13 billion) would be distributed across the tournament, following a 40 per cent increase in prize money compared to previous editions.
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe later confirmed that the winner of AFCON Morocco 2025 will receive USD 10 million (approximately KSh 1.29 billion) in prize money.
The announcement was made after a CAF Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting in Rabat, Morocco, a day before the tournament kicked off.
The winner’s prize represents a 43 per cent increase from the 2023 edition, when hosts Côte d’Ivoire took home USD 7 million (approximately KSh 902.65 million).

The runners-up at AFCON 2025 will receive USD 4 million (approximately KSh 515.8 million), while the two semi-finalists will each pocket USD 2.5 million (approximately KSh 322.4 million).
Teams that exit at the quarterfinal stage, eight in total, are guaranteed USD 1.3 million each (approximately KSh 167.6 million).
Meanwhile, the eight teams eliminated in the Round of 16 will earn USD 800,000 (approximately KSh 103.2 million) a piece.
Elsewhere, the best third-placed teams from the group stage received USD 700,000 (approximately KSh 90.3 million), while teams that finished fourth in their respective groups were awarded USD 500,000 (approximately KSh 64.5 million) each.

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and is the continent’s most prestigious men’s international football competition.
