The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened its online portal for applications to the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) March 2026 intake, marking the start of a critical placement window for aspiring health professionals across the country.

In a notice issued on Wednesday, January 7, KUCCPS announced that the application process targets candidates seeking placement in various KMTC programmes offered at certificate, diploma, and higher diploma levels.

The announcement comes at a time when demand for medical and health-related training continues to rise amid Kenya’s push to strengthen its healthcare workforce.

“Application for placement to Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), March 2026 intake, is now open,” KUCCPS stated, confirming that the exercise will run for slightly over three weeks to allow eligible applicants sufficient time to make their selections.

According to the placement body, the application window opened on January 7 and will close on January 27, 2026.

“Application period: January 7 to January 27, 2026. Log in to the KUCCPS System via the link students.kuccps.ac.ke to view available programmes and apply,” the statement added, urging applicants to review programme requirements carefully before submitting their choices.

KMTC’s Central Role in Health Training

The Kenya Medical Training College is a state corporation under the Ministry of Health and remains the country’s leading institution for training mid-level health professionals.

Established in 1927 as a small health training centre in Kabete, KMTC has grown into East Africa’s largest medical training institution.

Over the decades, the college expanded steadily, with individual campuses developing in the 1960s through support from the Kenyan government and international partners.

In 1990, an Act of Parliament formally established KMTC as a fully fledged state corporation, a milestone that accelerated its national expansion.

Today, KMTC produces more than 85 per cent of Kenya’s healthcare workforce, playing a key role in bridging health sector gaps.
