Six Hospitalised After Building Collapse Near Church in Nairobi

Update: Six casualties have been evacuated to hospital.

Clearing of the rubble is ongoing and all trapped persons have been accounted for.

Response teams remain on site as operations continue.

A building under construction collapsed on Saturday opposite Karen Community Church along Ngong Road, Nairobi, prompting an emergency response.

According to the Kenya Red Cross Society, three people were evacuated from the scene, while several others are suspected to be trapped under the rubble.

Rescue and response teams have been deployed and are currently working at the site.

“A building under construction opposite Karen Community Church, Ngong Road, has collapsed. Three people evacuated, others suspected trapped. Response teams at the scene,” Kenya Red Cross.

South C Building Collapse

This comes after a 16-storey building under construction collapsed in the South C estate of Nairobi on January 2, 2026.

Nairobi City County said the 16-storey building had been flagged at least three times by the enforcement teams after the developer extended its construction beyond the approved floors.

The National Construction Authority (NCA) also revealed that the project was non-compliant at the time of collapse. The developer, Abyan Consulting Limited’s licence had expired.

The DPP has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to immediately initiate or expedite investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident and submit a comprehensive report to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) within seven days.

“Towards holding every person who enabled the unsafe construction to account, whether public or private individuals, the DPP has directed the Inspector General of Police (IG) to immediately initiate and or expedite investigations into the circumstances surrounding the said incident and to submit a comprehensive report thereon to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) within seven days from today,” DPP said.
