President William Ruto cast his vote in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections on Saturday, January 10, highlighting the party’s efforts to strengthen internal democracy and consolidate its structures at the grassroots level.
The President voted at Koilel Primary School in Uasin Gishu County, his political backyard and a key stronghold for the ruling party.
Speaking shortly after participating in the exercise, President Ruto confirmed that the grassroots polls were being conducted simultaneously across 20 counties.
“Voted in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party grassroots elections at Koilel Primary School, Uasin Gishu County, to elect party officials. The polls are going on in 20 counties to elect 20 officials at the polling centre level,” Ruto said.
The elections are aimed at selecting party officials at the polling centre level, a foundational tier in UDA’s organisational hierarchy that plays a critical role in mobilization and policy feedback from communities.
Ruto emphasized the significance of the exercise, noting that it reflects the party’s commitment to participatory politics and citizen-driven leadership.
Ruto commended the unexpectedly high number of aspirants who presented themselves for leadership positions, describing the turnout as a positive signal of political engagement at the community level.
“I commend all the candidates for stepping forward in numbers far beyond expectation to offer leadership at the grassroots,” he said.
He noted that such participation is essential in nurturing future leaders and sustaining a vibrant political organisation rooted in public service.
