Kenya Railways has explained the reasons behind the demolition of Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s property near Nyayo Stadium.

In a statement on January 14, Kenya Railways said the Government of Kenya is making requisite preparations to host a successful tournament following a successful bid to co-host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027 alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

In Kenya, the Corporation said the games will be hosted at Nyayo National Stadium, Talanta Sports City Stadium, and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The Nyayo National Stadium is designated as a training centre during the tournament because of its central position.

“One of the key initiatives being undertaken includes the provision of an effective transport solution that will ensure easy access to and from the venues of the soccer event,” Kenya Railways said.

The Government plans to construct a railway station next to Nyayo National Stadium and a spur line from Nairobi Central Station through the Nyayo National Stadium area, Kibera, to Talanta Sports City Stadium.

Kenya Railways said the line will provide commuters with a safe, reliable, and affordable transport option, ensuring ease of movement.

“Towards this, the Government intends to construct a railway station adjacent to Nyayo National Stadium and a railway spur line from the Nairobi Central station through the Nyayo National Stadium area, Kibera to Talanta Sports City Stadium. This line will guarantee commuters a safe, reliable, and affordable transport option, thus ensuring ease of movement,” reads part of the statement.

Kenya Railways Eviction Notice

Further, Kenya Railways said it advised all encroachers in good time to vacate the railway corridor to pave the way for the construction of the station and spur line.

Kenya Railways is evicting all encroachers as it repossesses the land identified for the development of the station and spur line.

“To this end, all encroachers were advised and issued with notices in good time to vacate the railway corridor to pave the way for the construction of the station and spur line. Kenya Railways is in the process of evicting all encroachers as we repossess all the land that has been identified for the above mentioned development,” Kenya Railways said.
