Raphael Ndolo: Kenya Power Engineer Powering the Nation’s Grid for 17 Years

Kenya Power has recognised the contributions of one of its long-serving engineers, Eng. Raphael Ndolo has spent 17 years strengthening the nation’s electricity grid and driving digital innovation across the company’s distribution network.

In a statement released on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Kenya Power described Eng. Ndolo, as the Network Navigator, noted that his expertise has been instrumental in optimising power systems and implementing technology that keeps field teams connected across the country.

The electricity provider credited the engineer as a key figure behind major improvements in grid reliability and digital transformation within the company.

“Meet Eng. Raphael Ndolo,  the Network Navigator. With 17 years of keeping Kenya’s grid resilient and digitally reimagined, he’s the mastermind behind major power system optimisations and the technology that keeps teams connected on the ground,” the statement read.

Kenya Power noted that Eng. Ndolo has digitized 70 per cent of Kenya’s distribution grid, while also spearheading the reinforcement of underground cables across the country—an impact felt in nearly every household.

Eng. Ndolo joined Kenya Power in 2007 and has since served the company in various capacities.

Career

He currently works as the Manager, Distribution Network, where he heads operations and maintenance of KPLC’s electricity distribution grid. His previous roles include Chief Engineer, Technical Standards, and Assistant Engineer, Technical Audit.

Eng. Ndolo has over 20 years of experience in the industrial and energy sector, 10 of which have been in senior leadership.

Over the years, he has built expertise in power systems design and construction, industrial automation, technical audits, project management, monitoring and evaluation, technical standards compliance, and operations and maintenance of transmission and distribution grids.

He has also honed skills in strategy, business sustainability, accountability, leadership, and operations management.

Beyond Kenya Power, he has worked with notable companies including Socabelec East Africa and Sameer Africa Limited (formerly Firestone East Africa).

Education Background

Eng. Ndolo holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, earned between October 1999 and September 2004.

He also holds a Master of Science in Entrepreneurship (Creative Entrepreneurship) from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), as well as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Entrepreneurship.

In addition, he has several international certifications, including:

  • A Diploma in Leadership and Business Sustainability from the Swedish Institute (2018)
  • An Executive Certificate in Accountability in Sustainability from Jönköping International Business School (2022)
  • An Executive School Certificate in Renewable Energy Projects Development from SDA Bocconi (November 2023)

Eng. Ndolo is currently enrolled in a Postgraduate Program in Data Science and Business Analytics at The University of Texas at Austin, which focuses on advanced technical skills such as Python coding, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), and data visualization.
