Police in Mbale Town, Vihiga County, have launched investigations following the discovery of two bodies inside a septic tank located just a few metres from Mbale Police Station.

The bodies, believed to be those of a man and a woman, were discovered on January 13, 2026, by members of the public.

The shocking incident has sparked fear and anxiety among residents, many of whom flocked to the scene to witness the shocking discovery.

One family has since come forward to positively identify one of the bodies as that of Amfri Baranga, who reportedly went missing on December 24.

The family is now demanding answers from authorities over the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death.

A relative told journalists they had been searching for him for weeks before receiving the devastating news.

Second Body Found Decomposed

The second body, that of a woman, was found in an advanced state of decomposition, raising speculation among residents that it may have been dumped in the septic tank some time ago.

A family member involved in the recovery described how authorities were alerted and responded to the scene.

“I received news that there’s a body being seen in a septic tank here in Mbale Town.

We managed to inform the OCS Mbale Police Station, the DCI, and the county government, and they were made aware of the incident.

They came, and we teamed up together with the public and managed to remove her body,” said a family member.
