Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has break silence after his property worth millions was demolished along Douglas Wakihuri Road on the night of Tuesday, January 13 2026.
While addressing the media on Wednesday, January 14, the Governor accused his political rivals of orchestrating the demolition of his business.
“ What has happened here today is because of politics. I am asking myself when will this political end for me,” Wamatangi said.
The Kiambu Governor added that his property has hosted many businesses for many years, and that the demolitions carried out on Tuesday night were unfortunate for those who depend on the businesses to survive.
Wamatangi condemned the demolition of his property, terming it a cowardly move and accusing those behind it of abusing state power to threaten and intimidate him.
He claimed the action was meant to silence him, urging authorities to stop using government offices to target him and destroy his property.
“Stop using government offices to ruin me. Stop using state offices to destroy my property and intimidate me. This is an act of cowardice,” he said.

The governor said the demolition would not derail his development agenda, maintaining that he would continue focusing on service delivery rather than politics. He emphasized that he has deliberately avoided political confrontations to concentrate on development work.
Wamatangi argued that the move was meant to distract and intimidate him, insisting that he is not driven by political interests but by development goals. He added that he remains committed to serving the people of Kiambu and will stay away from active politics until March 2027, when he plans to begin campaign activities.
The Kiambu Governor also said they were not issued with any prior notice before the demolition was carried out.
“We have court orders that were signed when they first destroyed my property. Yesterday they came here with tear gas and live bullets,” Wamatangi said.
Wamatangi spoke after structures linked to him along Douglas Wakiihuri Road were pulled down, on land said to belong to the Kenya Railways Corporation.
In court papers filed at the Milimani Commercial Magistrates’ Court, the governor maintains that although the land is owned by Kenya Railways, it has been lawfully leased to his company for over two decades, with rent allegedly paid and officially acknowledged during that time.

The petition further alleges that people claiming to represent Kenya Railways visited the property in December and issued verbal instructions to vacate, but no written eviction notice was ever served.
The demolitions were conducted under heavy police deployment, causing traffic disruptions into the morning hours. No injuries were reported.
