EABL CFO and Executive Director Risper Ohaga Resigns

East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL) Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, Risper Ohaga, has resigned.

In a notice dated Wednesday, January 4, 2026, the Company’s Board of Directors, through the Company Secretary, Angela Namakwira, announced that Risper will be exiting at the end of June 2026.

“The Board of Directors of East African Breweries PLC hereby announces the resignation of Ms. Risper Ohaga as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of EABL with effect from 30 June 2026,” read part of the notice.

EABL Announces Resignation of Risper Ohaga as CFO

The Board announced that Risper’s resignation was influenced by her desire to pursue other interests outside the EABL Group, in line with her career aspirations.

Risper has served as the Company’s Chief Financial Officer and as an Executive Member of the Board of Directors since February 2020.

During her tenure, she has distinguished herself for her financial acuity and bold decision-making, optimising the company’s balance sheet and funding during and after the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the strategy is fully funded while costs are well managed, delivering strong results.

Further, the EABL Board of Directors noted that she has been instrumental in driving performance, strengthening controls and governance, building talent, and deepening investor relations with the company, crediting her with multiple financial reporting awards won under her leadership for EABL Finance.

The outgoing Chief Financial Officer has been feted at a personal level for outstanding achievements in the Breweries Company.

She is a celebrated leader who won The Women on Boards Award 2024, The Inclusive Leader Award – East Africa 2024, and the CFO of the Year 2024. She was also a finalist at the 2025 CFO of the Year Awards.

Additionally, the company stated that Risper has been instrumental in supporting industry sustainability initiatives through ICPAK’s National Sustainability Steerco and as a resource person at various leadership forums.

At the same time, the Board of Directors announced that Risper’s replacement will be announced separately.

The Board further thanked the outgoing Chief Financial Officer for the period she has served the company, wishing her the best in her future endeavours.

“The Board takes this opportunity to thank Risper for her visionary leadership across the organisation and her exemplary commitment to the business and its stakeholders. The Board wishes Risper the very best for the future,” said the Board.

About Asahi Group Acquiring the East Africa Breweries Limited

Her resignation comes during a transitional period, approximately one month after the Asahi Group announced the acquisition of Diageo’s stake in Diageo Kenya Ltd and UDV Kenya.

This acquisition may lead to further reorganisation within the leadership of EABL Plc.

The Asahi Group views the acquisition of EABL Plc as a unique opportunity to acquire a leading beverage platform in Africa, marking its first investment on the continent.

As part of the proposed transaction, Diageo and EABL Plc have agreed to enter into long-term licensing agreements and transitional service agreements.

With Asahi’s support, locally owned brands such as Tusker and Kenya Cane will continue to be owned by EABL Plc.

Additionally, refreshed agreements will allow EABL Plc to produce certain Diageo spirits, including Smirnoff and Captain Morgan, as well as the Guinness brand under license.

They will also manage the import and distribution of Diageo’s international premium spirits.
