Govt Considers Extension of Grade 10 Reporting Deadline

Share

The Ministry of Education has addressed whether it will extend the reporting deadline for Grade 10 students in their respective schools.

While speaking to the media on Thursday, January 15, 2026, Education Principal Secretary Professor Julius Bitok stated that the government is considering the extension.

“So far, we are confident. The numbers are growing slowly, but we are confident that by tomorrow these numbers will be up. We have been discussing with the ministry, and we are considering extending the deadline a little bit to accommodate those who report late and consultations are still there but we are hoping that the Minister will be able to give a clear position of the government on this particular issue,” said the PS.

PS Julius Bitok Hints at Govt Extending Reporting Date

Even though the Ministry of Education is considering whether to extend the reporting date, PS Bitok said the deadline for reporting should remain Friday, January 16, 2026, encouraging learners to report to their respective institutions as soon as possible.

At the same time, the PS spoke about why some schools, particularly in the C4 category, have fewer learners, as reported in the media.

The PS stated that most C4 schools are receiving students, but the reporting is happening gradually, which explains the lower numbers in some schools.

“I want to say that 42 percent of students who have reported to schools are in C4-level schools, which is actually the highest number. Of course, we expected C4 to have the highest number of students, but I want to emphasize that the majority of C4 schools in the country are receiving students. The challenge is that the numbers are increasing slowly,” said PS Bitok.

PS Bitok said that the government has opened a window up to Friday, January 16, to allow changes of schools, while urging parents and students to be content with the schools where they were placed.

“I want to say that all the 1.1 million learners have been placed in a school somewhere. Of course, there are still those who are requesting a revision, and the government has said they have up to tomorrow to do so,” said PS Bitok.
