The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a weather forecast for a five-day period from January 16 to January 20, 2026, indicating regions that are expected to experience rainfall as the weekend approaches.
According to the forecast, Kenya Met anticipates mainly sunny and dry conditions in most parts of the country.
However, occasional rainfall is expected in certain areas, specifically in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley itself, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the southeastern lowlands.
Strong northeasterly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected in the regions of North Western, Northeastern, Southeastern Lowlands, and the Coast.
For the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, mornings are expected to have sunny intervals throughout the forecast period, with afternoon showers likely in a few areas.
Showers are expected at night on Saturday, January 17, and Sunday, January 18, while the remaining nights will be partly cloudy.

Areas that will be affected within these Regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot Counties.
In the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and surrounding areas, mornings are expected to be cloudy, breaking into sunny intervals from Saturday, January 17, to Monday, January 19.
However, Friday, January 16, and Tuesday, January 20, will see only sunny intervals. Other counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi. Nights will be partly cloudy throughout the forecast period.
In the southeastern lowlands, which include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta Counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, sunny intervals are expected in the mornings for the entire forecast period. Showers over a few places are anticipated during the afternoons of Saturday, January 17, and Sunday, January 18, while the other days will mainly have sunny intervals. Nights will generally be cloudy during this period.

In the northwestern region, including Turkana and Samburu Counties, sunny intervals are expected to dominate both mornings and afternoons, with partly cloudy nights.
Along the coast, encompassing Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale Counties, as well as coastal parts of Tana River, mornings and afternoons are expected to experience sunny intervals, with partly cloudy nights.
In the northeastern region, which includes Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo Counties, mornings are expected to have sunny intervals throughout the forecast, with afternoons also mostly sunny, except on Sunday, January 18, when a chance of showers in a few places is anticipated.
Nights will primarily be partly cloudy, except for Saturday, January 17, and Sunday, January 18.
