Ruto Boasts of Building Road to Gachagua’s Home

Share

President William Ruto has recounted how he constructed the road leading to the home of his former Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking at the Nyeri County UDA Grassroots Leaders’ Meeting at Sagana State Lodge on Saturday, January 17, 2026, the Head of State said he personally ensured the construction of the road leading to the former Deputy President’s residence while addressing the state of roads in the region.

“This is our Mathira, I am a resident of Mathira; we have agreed on all these roads of ours, and I even told our MP that I was complaining that this road should not stop at the place where I built a road to my former Deputy’s home,” Ruto said.

Still on the issue of road construction, the Head of State at the same time criticized Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for allegedly failing to construct the road leading to his home for 40 years.

He stated that Kalonzo Musyoka had served in top government positions, including as Vice President during President Mwai Kibaki’s administration, yet failed to lobby President Kibaki to help construct the road leading to his home.

“I want to ask the people of Nyeri, if that man had just asked President Mwai Kibaki, ‘please, the road to my home is dusty,’ wouldn’t Kibaki have constructed it for him? Was Kibaki a bad person? Wasn’t he a gentleman?” the Head of State stated.

President Ruto further questioned whether the Wiper Party leader would be able to spearhead road construction if elected President, given that he has been unable to construct the road leading to his own home.

KeNHA  Advertises Tender for Road to Kalonzo’s Home

The Head of State urged Nyeri residents to shun leaders like his former Deputy President and Kalonzo Musyoka, saying that they have no agenda for the electorate and questioning how they would deliver if elected, when they cannot even handle simple tasks like constructing roads leading to their own homes.

President Ruto’s remarks about Gachagua’s road come months after he mentioned the road leading to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s home in Tseikuru, Kitui County, in  December 2025.

He criticised the condition of the road and used it as a talking point in political debates, questioning Kalonzo’s record on infrastructure development.

Following those remarks and the ensuing political exchange, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) published a tender notice in December 2025, inviting bids to strengthen and upgrade the Kyuso–Tseikuru Road, which leads to the Wiper leader’s home area. The project involves upgrading the dusty road to bitumen standards.
