CCTV Footage Reveals Last Moments of Man Allegedly Killed by Military Officer

Share

A family in Umoja I Estate, Nairobi, has accused a military officer of killing their relative and is demanding his arrest.

The family alleges that Alphy Migasha was attacked and severely beaten by a military officer identified as Nicholas Ireri Njue.

Alphy succumbed to his injuries even as the family accused the police of failing to take action against the suspect.

However, officers at Buruburu Police Station said the autopsy results will determine the next steps.

CCTV Footage Reveals Assault

In a CCTV footage captured on December 22, Alphy is seen seated outside a liquor joint in Nairobi’s Umoja One estate.

After a short while, a man approaches and confronts him.

They engage in a brief exchange before the man forcefully pulls Alphy to the ground and begins assaulting him.

The attacker continues to assault Alphy as witnesses attempt to intervene before calmly walking away, leaving him injured and helpless on the ground.

Doctors Report

Alphy’s family rushed him to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for urgent treatment after they were alerted about the incident.

Doctors confirmed that he sustained serious injuries, including fractured ribs, a broken leg, and chest injuries.

He was placed on medication as the family reported the incident to Buruburu Police Station.

Police Assurance to the Family

Buruburu DCIO Simon Kirui confirmed that the suspect is a military officer, assuring the family that police are actively handling the case and are awaiting autopsy results, which will be a key part of the investigation.

Alphy’s mother, Stella Okinda, said: “Tulienda tukareport kwa police Buruburu tukawapa kila kitu…wametuitisha kila kitu wanataka, lakini hawajatusaidia, mara mwisho walisema wanataka niwaletee kitu…sasa mimi naomba mnisaidie…”

The family later identified the attacker as Nicholas Njue Ireri, a military officer and proprietor of the entertainment joint.

Reports indicate that Ireri has been linked to two similar incidents previously reported and is also accused of issuing threats to the family after the attack.

The family said Ireri took their kin’s money, bag, and left him seriously injured.

“Alituambia hakuna kitu tutamfanyia na hatumjui, alichukua hadi pesa za huyo kijana wangu na bag yake na akaenda nazo kwa gari yake…aliumia kijana tukapata akiwa chini analia,” Okinda added.

Alphy Succumbs to Injuries

As fate would have it, Alphy later succumbed to the injuries sustained during the beating.

Okinda called on the government to intervene, saying Ireri has continued with his normal life and business following the incident.

The mother said they reported the matter to the police and other agencies, but have not received any assistance.

She maintained that the officer killed her son and that the police are aware of the suspect.

“Sasa mwili wa mtoto wangu uko Mama Lucy…mimi nalia lakini yeye ako hapa anaendelea na biashara…nimeenda kwa polisi, kila mahali sisaidiki, wakenya wooii mnisaidie, mtoto wangu aliuliwa…huyo askari hata polisi wanamjua,” stated Ms. Okinda.

The family has sought the help of Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin, who has since confirmed receiving the complaint.
