The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has unveiled its list of nominees for the position of Judge of the Court of Appeal.
Among those nominated is Senior Counsel Katwa Kigen, who was a member of President William Ruto’s defence team at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Kigen was interviewed by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, as part of the process to fill 15 vacancies in the Court of Appeal.
The interviews began on January 12, 2026.
He was among 35 shortlisted candidates initially announced in October 2025, following the closure of applications in July 2025.
JSC has also nominated Issack Hassan.
Hassan has been serving as the Chairperson of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) since his appointment in December 2024.
He served as Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) from 2011 to 2017.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
Admitted to the High Court of Kenya as an advocate in 1995.

Justice Enock Chacha Mwita, a respected Judge of the High Court of Kenya, serving since 2014, has also been nominated.
Other nominees include Lady Justice Hedwing Imbosa Ong’udi, Justice Mathews Nduma Nderi, Lady Justice Linet Mumo Ndolo, and Lady Justice Lucy Mwihaki Njuguna.

Justice Samson Odhiambo Okongo, Lady Justice Rachel Chepkoech Ngetich, Justice Stephen Andersen Radido Okiyo, Mr. Brown Murungi Kairaria, and Mr. Paul Lilan has alos been nominated.
JSC also nominated Justice Munyao Sila, Mr. Johnson Okoth Okello, and Justice Byram Ongaya.
