A National Police Service (NPS) recruitment exercise turned tragic on Friday, January 23, 2026, morning, after a road accident claimed the life of a 20-year-old recruit and left more than 20 others injured.

According to reports, the crash occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. on the Marua–Chaka road, just a kilometer west of Kiganjo Police Station.

The recruits were on their morning run when a Toyota Fielder heading towards Marua failed to obey traffic instructions, resulting in the fatal collision near the Rubis petrol station.

“The driver did not stop as required,” the police stated, noting that the vehicle struck the recruits from behind as they headed toward Kiganjo. The impact was devastating for one 20-year-old recruit, who succumbed to his injuries en route to Mathari Mission Hospital.
