Natembeya, Sonko and Obado Cases Set for Court this Week

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has listed several high-profile corruption and economic crime cases set for mention and hearing this week.

The busy schedule at the Milimani and regional Anti-Corruption Courts will feature key figures including current and former governors, senior government officials, and various individuals accused of defrauding the public while in office.

According to the report from the EACC, the mention will run from January 26th to 30th, 2026.

Key Cases to Watch

1. Governor George Natembeya (Trans-Nzoia County)

On January 26, 2026, the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court will mention the case against Governor George Natembeya.

He, alongside others, is charged with conflict of interest and unlawful acquisition of public property.

The allegations involve the award of contracts worth Kes. 11.9 million to Maira Stores Limited and Lyma Agro Science Limited by the County Government of Trans Nzoia.

“George Natembeya, Governor, Trans-Nzoia County, and another. They are charged with conflict of interest and unlawful acquisition of public property. Allegations relate to the award of contracts to Maira Stores Limited and Lyma Agro Science Limited at a sum of Kes.11.9 Million by the County Government of Trans Nzoia. Milimani Anti-Corruption Court; 26/1/2026,” EACC said on a post.

2. Mike Mbuvi Sonko (Former Nairobi Governor)

The former Nairobi boss will be at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on January 29, 2026.

Sonko is facing charges related to a conflict of interest over the award of a contract for revenue collection services for the Nairobi City County Government.

Mr. Sonko is accused of several offenses related to terrorism, assault, and corruption. He rejects them all.

He is accused of embezzling over 300 million shillings in part by giving contracts to friends’ businesses that allegedly wired money to his personal accounts after receiving payments from Nairobi County.

“Mike Mbuvi Kioki Sonko and another. They are charged with conflict of interest. Allegations relate to the award of a contract for revenue collection services for the Nairobi City County Government. Milimani Anti-Corruption Court; 29/1/2026,” EACC said on a post.

3. Zacharia Okoth Obado (Former Migori Governor)

The long-running case against Zachary Okoth Obado and eight others is scheduled for mention on January 28, 2026.

They are charged with conspiracy to commit economic crimes and the unlawful acquisition of public property.

The EACC alleges gross misappropriation of public funds through designated proxies between 2013 and 2017.

“Zacharia Okoth Obado, Governor, Migori County, and 8 others. They are charged with conspiracy to commit an economic crime and unlawful acquisition of public property. Allegations relate to gross misappropriation of public funds by the Governor through his designated proxies from 2013 to 2017. Milimani Anti-Corruption Courts; 28/1/2026,” EACC highlighted on a post.

Other Significant Mentions

The EACC has also highlighted key significant cases for mention, including the former District Education Officer (DEO), Samburu East, Joel Kaunda Ontoya, and 3 others who are charged with abuse of office.

Their allegations relate to the embezzlement of public funds by the defendants between 2015 and 2017. The cases will be mentioned in the Isiolo Anti-Corruption Court on 29 January 2026.

Emily Wambui Njeri, a former employee of NCWSC, is also charged with fraudulent acquisition of public property and forgery of a KCSE certificate and her case will be mentioned at the Milimani Law Court on 27 January 2026.

Dr. Shem Odongo Ochuodho and 2 others are charged with conspiracy to defraud.

The EACC noted that their allegations relate to the irregular debt refinancing of Triple A Capital Ltd to Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) management, resulting in losses of over Kes286 million.

Their case will be mentioned inthe  Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on 30 January 2026.
