KBL Awards Ksh1 Million to Two More Kenyans, Farmer-led Community Projects in Promotion Campaign

Share

Two more Senator Keg consumers on Monday, January 26, won Ksh 1 million each for participating in the ongoing Tuzidi Kuinuana (Let’s continue uplifting each other) promotion campaign, bringing the total winners to four.

The campaign, now in its second month, seeks to demonstrate shared value between its consumers and the community it operates in and serves.

Eric Waful, who works at a carwash in Nairobi, Karen area, said he would use the money to construct a house at his rural home while donating Ksh500,000 to Holo Valley Farmers Group- a People With Disability (PWD) Community Based Organization (CBO) based in Kisumu county.

“I feel privileged to have won this money… at first I could not believe it when I got the call telling me I am the winner, but it is a major boost to the plans I had of owning a house back in the village,” he said.

Holo Valley Farmers Group Benefits from the Win

Holo Valley Farmers group consists of farmers who grow cowpeas for diverse markets and sorghum, which they aggregate and sell to KBL for the production of Senator Keg.

“The money will help the group to advance its training to members on best farming practices and raise capital for the aggregation of sorghum. I am happy that the money is going to fund such a noble course led by PWDs,” he said.

Gabriel Njuguna to Expand Farming Enterprise

On the other hand, Gabriel Njuguna, a long-distance truck driver, said he would invest his money to expand his flock of dorper sheep, a farming enterprise that complements his main job.

“When I got the call, I thought it was one of those many scams going around nowadays, but this is a confirmation that the campaign is real and we are winning,” he said, adding that he picked Gakiuma farmers in Tharaka Nithi county as the beneficiary of the Ksh500,000 of his win to increase farm storage for their produce.

“They are farmers who collect and aggregate cowpeas, green grams for assorted local markets, and sorghum, which they primarily sell to KBL. They also distribute farm input equipment. Having interacted with them, I know they need money to increase their storage capacity for their produce and also purchase farm equipment. This money will go a long way in helping them achieve that,” he said.
