East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Winnie Odinga has dismissed claims by businessman Oketch Salah, who has alleged that he was close to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during his final moments.
Speaking during a media interview on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Winnie said neither she nor the Odinga family knows Salah, despite his public claims that he was Raila Odinga’s “adopted son” and played a role in funding some of his activities.
“I have met him, but I’d like to believe nobody really knows him,” Winnie said.
She added that she found his claims disturbing, especially given the circumstances surrounding her father’s death.
She described the loss of her father as a deeply traumatic experience and questioned the intentions behind Salah’s statements, particularly his claim that he was present at the time of Raila Odinga’s death.
“Because a flat-out lie that you were there at the time of my father’s death when you were not, and talking about things that did not occur, is quite dangerous,” she said.
Winnie further suggested that such claims raised serious concerns and should be treated with urgency.
“It makes me question the intentions behind such statements. I believe there are only two places that should be rushed to with immediate effect,” she said.

Her comments come amid heightened public discussion following the emergence of the businessman a few days before the late former Prime Minister died.
Videos circulating on social media showed the two spending time together, with the businessman making claims of closeness to the late ODM leader and asserting that he was with the former prime minister during his final moments.
Following public scrutiny from various quarters, the businessman issued a statement breaking his silence amid growing criticism over his alleged relationship with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. He dismissed claims that he had been misrepresenting his role during Odinga’s final days.
In a statement dated Tuesday, January 20, 2026, responding to widespread social media criticism, Salah denied allegations that he had been moving around the country, particularly at Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) gatherings, falsely claiming to have been the only person by Raila Odinga’s side before his death.

Salah maintained that, although he was not alone, he was among those present with the late ODM leader during his illness and final moments, insisting that his remarks were not driven by political ambition or a quest for public sympathy.
“I was with Baba Raila Odinga from the time he first fell ill until his final moments on earth. That is a fact. I do not say this for sympathy, relevance, or political mileage; I say it because it is the truth,” Salah said.
He further explained that there were moments during that period when Odinga’s condition worsened, adding that at times he and one of Odinga’s security aides were the only people assisting him.
“There were moments I genuinely thought I was losing him, moments when it was only me and one of his security aides holding Baba, trying to steady him and help him through the pain. This is not a story; this is lived experience,” he said.
