Oketch Salah Speaks Out After Winnie Odinga Rejects Claims He Was Close to Raila

Share

Businessman Oketch Salah has responded after Winnie Odinga dismissed claims that he was close to her father, the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In a statement, Salah said he watched the interview but chose to remain silent out of respect for Mama Ida Odinga.

“I watched last night’s interview on Citizen TV with Ivonne Okwara where Winnie spoke about me.

Because of the respect I have for Her Excellency the Ambassador, Mama Ida Min Piny from Migori, I chose to remain quiet.

That was a deliberate decision,” he said.

Salah, however, maintained the claims he has made about his final moments with Raila, insisting that they are true.

He stated that those moments were real, painful, and lived.

Oketch Salah promised to respond to Winnie in an interview.

“However, some things need clarity.

I stand by everything I said about my last moments with Baba.

Those moments were real, painful and lived.

I will respond in an interview soon,” he said.

Winnie Odinga’s Interview

Speaking during a media interview on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Winnie said neither she nor the Odinga family knows Salah, despite his public claims that he was Raila Odinga’s “adopted son” and played a role in funding some of his activities.

“I have met him, but I’d like to believe nobody really knows him,” Winnie said.

She went further to suggest that Sala’s statements warranted official scrutiny.

“He should be rushed to either Mathare or DCI with immediate effect,” she added.

She described the death of her father as extremely painful and traumatic ordeal, saying the experience made her deeply sensitive to what she termed misleading narratives surrounding his final moments.

Winnie questioned the motive behind Salah’s remarks, especially his claim that he was present when Raila Odinga died.

“Because it’s a flat-out lie that you were there at the time of my father’s death when you were not, and talking about things that did not occur, is quite dangerous,” she said.

Public Debate Intensifies

The exchange has sparked widespread debate online, with Kenyans sharply divided over the credibility of the claims and the appropriateness of airing such sensitive matters publicly.
