Detectives from the Mombasa DCI Regional Headquarters have tracked down a man for a violent robbery suspect in a hideout in the Bondeni area.
The suspect, identified as Salim Keya Ngesa, was apprehended in a coordinated raid involving officers from DCI Urban and the Tononoka Police Station.
Ngesa had been on the run following a brutal attack on a security guard that was captured in a CCTV video that recently went viral, sparking public outrage.
“A team of officers from Mombasa DCI Regional Headquarters, together with their counterparts from DCI Urban and Tononoka Police Station, have apprehended a notorious robbery with violence suspect who was captured attacking a watchman, in a video that has since gone viral across social media platforms,” DCI said in a report.

The Attack
The footage, which circulated widely on social media, showed Ngesa and an accomplice, both armed with machetes (pangas), launching a vicious assault on an unsuspecting watchman. The two men were seen striking the guard before fleeing the scene with his mobile phone.
“The chilling footage shows the suspect, armed with a panga, alongside an accomplice, launching a vicious assault on the unsuspecting watchman before making off with his mobile phone,” DCI stated in a report.
The Arrest and Evidence
Following forensic leads, detectives narrowed their search to Bondeni “A,” where they discovered Ngesa hiding in a local guest house. During the search of his room, police recovered a haul of evidence linking him to the crime and other potential robberies.
“Upon his arrest, officers recovered a cache of incriminating evidence: six assorted mobile phones, a blood-stained panga, two knives, and a greyish kanzu that matched the attire seen in the CCTV footage of the brutal incident,” DCI said in a report.

The suspect is currently in custody, undergoing processing as we prepare for his arraignment in court. We are sending a clear message that violent crime will not be tolerated in this city.”
The watchman is reportedly receiving medical attention for injuries sustained during the attack.
“Now behind bars, the suspect is undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, detectives are hot on the heels of his elusive accomplice, who remains on the run,” DCI said in a report.
