The Democracy For The Citizens Party (DCP) has formally notified the Inspector General of Police of an impending visit by the united opposition leadership to raise what it terms serious national security and constitutional concerns.
In a letter dated January 29, 2026, and officially received at Jogoo House, the party said the delegation will visit the Office of the Inspector General on Friday, January 30, at 10:00 a.m.
The notification, authored by DCP Deputy Party Leader Senator Cleophas Malalah, states that the visit is intended to “officially raise serious complaints and engage in discussions on the way forward regarding the safety and security of opposition leaders and their supporters.”
The letter emphasizes that opposition figures across the country have allegedly faced repeated attacks without police intervention.
According to the DCP, the decision to seek direct engagement with the police leadership follows what it describes as a pattern of unresolved incidents.
“These incidents have been reported to various police stations and relevant commands; however, to date, no investigations, updates, or corrective actions have been communicated or undertaken by the National Police Service,” the letter reads.
The party provided what it described as a “non-exhaustive list of reported incidents” involving its party leader, H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, and allied opposition leaders.
Among the earliest cited cases is an incident on November 28, 2024, when “Our party leader was attacked by organized criminal gangs under police supervision” during a funeral service in Limuru, Kiambu County.
Another incident allegedly occurred on December 28, 2024, in Shamata, Nyandarua County, where “An inspector of police flanked by organized criminal gangs threw teargas canisters at our cars and at our supporters.”
The DCP also claims that on January 18, 2025, “The Spouse to our party leader was ambushed during a prayer rally at Kamukunji grounds in Nyeri Town.”

Some of the reported incidents of attacks are alleged to have taken place at churches and public gatherings.
On March 23, 2025, the party alleges that “Criminal gangs broke into a church and hurt worshippers” at ACK St. Peter’s Cathedral in Nyeri.
Another attack is reported to have occurred on April 6, 2025, “during a church service at PCEA Kasarani East Parish, at Mwiki in Nairobi County.”
The letter further alleges that on July 27, 2025, in Kinyona, Murang’a County, “Goons and police violently attacked Senator John Methu, several leaders and my team using live ammunition.”
A later incident on January 25, 2026, claims that “Goons and Police torched H.E Rigathi Gachagua’s vehicles during a church service in Othaya, Nyeri County.”

Citing the Constitution, the DCP says, “The National Police Service has a duty to provide security impartially and protect all citizens regardless of political affiliation.”
The party argues that this mandate has been violated through alleged inaction or complicity by officers.
The delegation expected at Jogoo House will include: H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, H.E Kalonzo Musyoka, Hon. Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, Hon. Martha Karua, Hon. Justin Muturi, and Hon. Omingo Magara.
The opposition says it hopes the engagement will be handled, “In the interest of national stability, rule of law, and democratic governance.”
The letter concludes with an appeal to the Inspector General, stating, “We trust that your office will receive the united opposition leadership and accord the matter the seriousness it deserves.”
