The Boards of Williamson Tea Kenya Plc and Kapchorua Tea Kenya PLC have announced leadership changes within the Board of Directors.
In a notice dated Friday, January 30, 2026, the Boards, through their Company Secretary Gilbert Masaki, announced the resignation of Samuel Ndungu Thumbi from his position as Executive Director of both companies.
Further, the Board stated that Thumbi will step down on January 31, 2026, pending his retirement on 31 March 2026.
“The Boards of Williamson Tea Kenya PLC and Kapchorua Tea Kenya PLC wish to announce the resignation of Mr. Samuel Ndungu Thumbi from his position as Executive Director of both companies, at the close of business on 31 January 2026, pending his retirement on 31 March 2026,” read part of the notice.
According to the Boards, Thumbi served the companies for over 44 years, during which he held various senior management roles, culminating in his appointment as Visiting Agent and Executive Director responsible for quality and production.
In this role, he provided oversight of estate operations, agronomic performance and production systems, resulting in sustained improvements in production efficiency, leaf quality, and supporting the company’s market position.

Furthermore, the Boards thanked Samuel Thumbi for his long service to the companies.
“The Boards extend their sincere appreciation to Samuel for his exemplary contribution and long service and wish him every success in his future endeavours,” read the notice.
At the same time, the Boards announced the appointment of Angus Nyariki Omete as Executive Director of both companies with effect from February 1 2026.
Omete is currently the Group Chief Financial Officer, and the Board stated that he brings a wealth of industry experience and expertise, following a distinguished career spanning over 26 years with the company.
The Boards congratulated Angus on his appointment and noted that this announcement is made pursuant to the Capital Markets (Public Offers, Listings and Disclosures) Regulations, 2023.
Williamson Tea Kenya Plc, established in 1869, is a Kenyan tea producer. The company operates large-scale tea estates and processing facilities, producing black and green teas for local and international markets.

It is publicly listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and has a sister company, Kapchorua Tea Kenya Plc, under the same management. Together, they manage tea estates across Kenya’s highlands and participate in the country’s tea export sector.
