ODM party leader Oburu Odinga has commented on Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s position in the ongoing discussions with the ruling UDA party.
Speaking on Monday, February 2, Oburu said they do not intend to send Kindiki out of the picture as they negotiate with UDA.
Oburu said ODM will not settle for less as a party and for its supporters, but emphasized that Kindiki remains their friend.
“We are not going to look for less. Lakini, deputy president, usifikirie tunataka kiti yako tunataka kukufukuza. You are our friend, but we are going to negotiate what our people and party deserve,” Oburu said.
He dismissed claims that ODM is not a local party but a national party.
Oburu said the Party detests tribalism and is determined to ensure everyone gets their fair share in government.
“We are going to negotiate what our party deserves. ODM is not a Luo party; it is a party for the whole of Kenya. Therefore, we are going to negotiate fairly; we don’t want tribal parties. We are not going to take anybody’s share. We are only going to make sure that everyone gets their own fair share of the national cake,” he added.
Oburu said ODM will get more positions in government in 2027 due to the ongoing discussions with President William Ruto.
He pointed out that the Party already has four Cabinet slots and other powerful positions in government after the initial talks.
“We are going to talk to UDA to ensure we get more than we have now. We managed to talk to the President, and we got the Ministry of Energy, Co-operative, Finance, and Budget Committee Chairman,” he said.
