KUCCPS CEO Outlines Procedure for Late Applications

Share

Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has outlined how students who missed the regular application window can still access higher education placements.

Speaking during a media interview on NTV’s Fixing the Nation show on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, KUCCPS CEO Dr Agnes Wahome explained that the late application process is aimed at students who, for various reasons, were unable to apply immediately after completing their exams.

“We discovered that some high-performing students in regions such as Wajir, Garissa, Mandera, and Turkana had not applied due to relocation, limited internet access, or personal challenges,” she said.

To ensure students in remote areas were not left behind, Dr. Wahome and her team traveled to Wajir, where they held a live radio program.

The initiative allowed KUCCPS to engage directly with students, listen to their concerns, and understand the specific challenges preventing them from submitting applications on time.

“We even traveled to Wajir and held a live radio program to reach students directly and understand their challenges,” said the KUCCPS CEO.

She added that students who sat for exams in the last two years but missed the initial application period are eligible to apply as “late applicants.”

The KUCCPS CEO added that the Placement Service has put in place support systems across the country, including Huduma Centres and technical colleges like Wajir KMTC, to assist students in areas with poor internet connectivity. “Where internet access is a challenge, physical officers are available to guide students through the application process,” Dr. Wahome noted.

Dr. Wahome also clarified that under the new funding model, placement and funding have been separated. This means students can focus on securing placement first, while funding applications are handled independently. She stressed that late applicants are assessed based on their performance at the time of their exams, rather than against the current cohort, ensuring fairness.

“The late application process ensures that no student is left behind,” Dr. Wahome said.

“We encourage students to apply as soon as possible, but we understand that circumstances such as relocation, childcare, or financial constraints may delay applications. This system provides them with a fair opportunity to access higher education.”
