EALA Member of Parliament and a close ally of former President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined the political party of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a statement dated Wednesday, February 4, 2026, the former Deputy President welcomed the EALA MP to his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
“Welcome Home Hon Kannini Kega DCP Party is the home of progressive leaders who desire leadership in the future,” said Gachagua.
Gachagua shared images of himself with Kanini Kega on his social media platforms, both wearing DCP caps, accompanied by several politicians, including former Satarehe Member of Parliament Maina Kamanda.
On his part, the EALA MP stated that he is glad to join the former Deputy President’s ‘Wantam’ movement, which seeks to make President William Ruto a one‑term president.
“WANTAM IT IS!,” said the EALA legislator.

The EALA legislator, a former Member of Parliament for Kieni Constituency who lost the 2022 general election to Njoroge Wainaina of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has not publicly declared which position he intends to vie for in the 2027 general elections under the DCP party.
Kega joins the DCP party a day after he posted images on his social media platforms hanging out with several politicians include former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando wa Kabando.
“When good Friends meet after a long time,” said Kega.
The EALA MP’s move comes at a time when Rigathi Gachagua is actively seeking to unite Mt. Kenya leaders, including efforts to reconcile with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, so that the region can enter the 2027 polls united.
Gachagua has publicly apologised to Uhuru Kenyatta and his family for the divisions created during the 2022 campaign, acknowledging that the region was “misled” by President Ruto.

Several media reports have suggested that an official “handshake” or public meeting between the two leaders is imminent, signalling a potential formal political truce.
Allies, including Cleophas Malala and the Deputy Party Secretary-General of DCP, have claimed that the two are already collaborating behind the scenes, citing recent leadership changes in the Jubilee Party as evidence of a working relationship.
