President William Ruto has commended his Deputy President (DP) Kithure Kindiki for effectively supporting the government’s agenda, a role that he argues former Deputy Rigathi Gachagua reportedly struggled to fulfil.
Speaking to UDA aspirants at State House on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, President Ruto said that his work has become significantly easier since Kindiki assumed his delegated responsibilities.
“I am happy today to have an assistant who understands his work. If it were someone else (Gachagua), they may not have grasped matters the way Professor Kindiki does. My work has become easier because I have a deputy who understands roads, electricity, universal healthcare coverage, education, and savings. We can share the work efficiently,” President Ruto said.
The President compared Kindiki’s performance to his own tenure as Deputy to President Uhuru Kenyatta, noting that Kindiki has helped the administration achieve its objectives effectively.

President Ruto praised Kindiki’s dedication and innovation, noting that the deputy’s understanding of government operations has allowed the administration to implement programs more effectively.
“Kindiki has shown courage and professionalism in executing his duties. He has taken on responsibilities that were previously challenging and has delivered results,” Ruto said.
President Warns Kenyans Against Electing Gachagua and His Allies
At the same time, the Head of State criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who is now in the United Opposition camp, accusing him of promoting the politics of tribalism. He said Gachagua and his political allies should instead focus on selling policies to Kenyans.
The President also warned Kenyans against electing such leaders, arguing that they have no clear agenda to offer. He noted that they had previously been given a chance to serve Kenyans but failed to deliver on their mandate.

President William Ruto and his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, parted ways after Parliament impeached Gachagua on October 17, 2024, ending his tenure as Deputy President.
Since then, Gachagua has publicly vowed to make Ruto a one-term president and has signalled his intention to challenge him in the 2027 presidential election.
