The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has informed its stakeholders and the general public that it has received a notice of intended industrial action dated February 9, 2026, from the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU).
In a statement, KCAA Director General Emile N. Arao said they have carefully reviewed the notice in line with the Constitution, the Labour Relations Act, 2007, and applicable Government labour relations policies.
Arao said the Authority is actively engaging the union through established and lawful consultative frameworks.
He added that the aim is to resolve the issues raised amicably and in good faith.
“KCAA wishes to assure stakeholders that it is actively engaging the Union through established and lawful consultative frameworks, with the objective of resolving the issues raised amicably and in good faith,” Arao said.
Arao explained that KCAA performs functions that are designated as essential services under the law as a regulator and service provider within the civil aviation sector.

In this regard, he stated that the Authority remains firmly committed to ensuring the continuity of critical aviation safety and operational services, in the interest of public safety, national security, and economic stability.
“KCAA reiterates that dialogue remains the preferred and appropriate avenue for resolving labour-related concerns. Engagements with the Union have already commenced and will continue within the mechanisms provided for under the law, including conciliation where applicable,” he said.

Arao assured that the authority is experiencing no disruption to aviation operations and that all services are continuing as normal for airlines, passengers, industry partners, and the public.
“The Authority assures airlines, passengers, industry partners, and the public that there is no disruption to aviation operations, and all services continue to be delivered as normal,” he said.
“Further updates will be communicated through official channels as engagements progress.”
