Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Turbo have arrested an uncle and aunt accused of fatally assaulting their 19-year-old nephew, Kevin Kipkorir Meli, in an incident that occurred on February 2, 2026, in Kiplombe Location, Turbo Sub-County.
In a statement dated February 10, 2026, the DCI said that officers at Baharini Police Station received a distress call reporting a person who had been brutally beaten to death at Kaplelach village.
“On that grim day, officers at Baharini Police Station received a distress call about a person who had been brutally beaten to death at Kaplelach village,” read part of the notice.
Responding immediately, officers rushed to the scene, where they found Kevin’s lifeless body lying beneath an avocado tree at his uncle’s homestead.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers documented the scene, noting multiple injuries on the victim’s head, back, legs, and hands, as well as a blood clot in his nose. His body was later transported to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Kevin was suspected of stealing and selling dry maize from his uncle’s home.
In an alleged act of retaliation, Phillip Kosgei and Tecla Chepchirchir tied him to an avocado tree and beat him mercilessly with canes until he fell unconscious and succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives recovered a manila rope used to tie Kevin and broken sticks reportedly used in the assault, which have been preserved as crucial exhibits at the scene.
Both suspects are currently in police custody and are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment.

A similar incident occurred in 2025, when a 15-year-old girl, identified as Shirleen Nyangweso, died after allegedly being severely beaten by her father, Nelson Omeno, on the night of December 31, 2025, at their home in Dandora, Nairobi.
According to reports from the girl’s biological mother, Pamela Sande, and police investigations, Shirleen had been living with her father but visited her estranged biological mother in Mathare during the December holidays, starting around December 26.
The father reportedly became agitated about the visit, went to pick her up on December 31 after a quarrel, and took her back home. He then allegedly punished her severely by repeatedly caning and beating her for visiting her mother.
