The Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS), Douglas Kanja, met with the County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC), chaired by the Homabay Senator Moses Otieno Kajwang’, at Bunge Towers in Nairobi.

This meeting followed the committee’s invitation to the Inspector General, which plays a vital role in supporting the Senate’s oversight mandate as provided for under Article 96 of the Constitution of Kenya.

In line with the National Police Service Act, which governs the NPS’s operations, investigations, and enforcement, the Inspector General reaffirmed the NPS’s commitment to collaborating with the committee to ensure the effective fulfillment of its mandate.

NPS to Work With Security Agencies

During the meeting, IG Kanja reiterated his dedication to working closely with other security agencies to facilitate investigations into misappropriated resources, enforce committee summonses, and provide security during committee proceedings and county visits.

He also emphasised the importance of information sharing to support the committee’s investigative work.

Governors Reject PAC

The Council of Governors (CoG) announced that governors would stop appearing before the Senate County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC), saying they have been subjected to intimidation, harassment, humiliation and political “witch‑hunts” during oversight hearings.

They argue that the conduct of some Senators on the committee falls short of constitutional standards for respectful and lawful scrutiny.
