The National Assembly has invited members of the public to submit their opinions on the nomination of Ida Odinga as Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
In a notice dated Thursday, February 12, 2026, the Clerk of the National Assembly, Samuel Njoroge, highlighted that under section 6(9) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act (Cap. 7F), any member of the public may submit a written statement on oath contesting the suitability of a nominee.
“In compliance with Article 118(1)(b) of the Constitution and section 6(9) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act (Cap. 7F), the Clerk of the National Assembly hereby invites members of the public to submit any representations they may have, by way of written statements on oath (affidavits) with supporting evidence contesting the suitability of the candidates for appointment to the offices to which they have been nominated,” the notice read.
The notice stated that affidavits with supporting evidence should be forwarded to the Clerk of the National Assembly via:

All submissions must be received by Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

The public has also been invited to submit views on Francis Meja, the former Director General of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), who has been nominated for appointment as Chairperson of the Public Service Commission (PSC) alongside Ida Odinga.
According to the notification from the Clerk, the nominations were referred to the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations and the Departmental Committee on Labour for vetting. The approval hearings are scheduled for Friday, February 20, 2026, with Dr. Odinga appearing at the Mini-Chamber, County Hall, and Meja at Bunge Tower.

Nominees are required to appear for the hearings with their original identity cards, academic and professional certificates, and obtain compliance letters from various institutions, including the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Kenya Revenue Authority, Higher Education Loans Board, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Registrar of Political Parties, Commission for University Education, and a Credit Reference Bureau.
