The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has updated the public on recent developments concerning the planned industrial action.

On February 12, 2026, the Employment and Labour Relations Court of Kenya sitting at Milimani, Nairobi, issued interim directions in a matter involving KCAA and the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU).

The Court certified the Authority’s application as urgent and, as an interim measure, directed that the strike notice dated February 9, 2026, should not be acted upon pending the hearing and determination of the case.

The Court further directed that, until the matter is heard and determined, any strike action that may interfere with the Authority’s statutory responsibilities should not proceed.

These responsibilities include:

  • Safeguarding aviation safety and security.
  • Economic regulation of air services.
  • Supporting the continued development of civil aviation in Kenya.

“These functions are critical to protecting the travelling public and sustaining confidence in Kenya’s aviation sector. The matter is scheduled for mention on 26th February 2026 for further directions from the Court,” KCAA said.
