Kenya Met Lists Select Areas to Experience Rainfall Over the Weekend

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has listed areas expected to experience rainfall as the weekend approaches.

In its forecast published on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Kenya Met released a five-day weather outlook for the period February 13 to 17, 2026.

Several parts of the country are expected to remain sunny and dry. However, rainfall is likely in some areas of the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and parts of the Southeastern Lowlands.

Kenya Met Releases Five-Day Weather Forecast

According to Kenya Met, mornings in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley will experience rain in a few places, except on Friday, February 13, when sunny intervals are expected.

Afternoons will experience showers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period, while nights will have showers in a few areas.

Counties in this region include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.

Weather Forecast for Nairobi and its Surroundings

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi and its environs, mornings will mostly experience sunny intervals, except on Sunday, February 15, when showers are expected in a few areas.

Afternoons will have showers in a few places, while nights will be partly cloudy, except on Saturday, February 14, and Monday, February 16, when there is a chance of showers in some areas.

Other counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.

Southeastern Lowlands

The Southeastern Lowlands, which include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, will experience mostly sunny mornings. However, a few days may see rainfall in isolated areas.

Afternoons and nights are expected to have showers in a few places.

Coastal Region

In the Coastal region, which includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as the Tana Delta, mornings will experience sunny intervals throughout the forecast period

Afternoons will also be mostly sunny, except on Tuesday, February 17, when there is a chance of showers in a few areas, particularly in Kwale County.

Nights will be partly cloudy throughout the period.

Northwestern Region

The northwestern region, comprising Turkana and Samburu counties, will experience sunny intervals in the mornings, with occasional rainfall in a few areas on some days.

Afternoons may see showers in isolated areas, while nights will remain partly cloudy.

Northeastern Region

In the northeastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, mornings and afternoons will experience sunny intervals, while nights will be partly cloudy.
