DCI Warns Kenyans to Be Cautious When Meeting Valentine’s Day Dates from Dating Apps

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued an advisory to Kenyans, blending heartfelt holiday wishes with critical safety warnings for those seeking romance online.

In a statement published on X account on February 14, 2026, titled “A Valentine’s Whisper from the Heart of Safety,” the DCI extended wishes for pure joy and unbreakable bonds to citizens and their cherished ones.

“This Valentine’s Day, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations extends to you and your cherished ones heartfelt wishes of pure joy, serene moments, and unbreakable bonds wrapped in warmth and light. May your celebrations be painted in hues of passion and peace, blooming eternally,” DCI wrote on a post.

However, they took the space to remind the public that while digital platforms can spark new beginnings, they also conceal shadows that require a high degree of deep responsibility, adding that they often serve as hunting grounds for individuals with malicious intent.

“May your celebrations be painted in hues of passion and peace, blooming eternally. Yet, as Cupid’s arrows fly across digital skies, we gently remind you: online connections can spark beautiful beginnings, but they also conceal shadows,” DCI noted.

The report further stated that Kenyans should exercise utmost caution when meeting someone from dating apps or social platforms for the first time.

They directed that people should choose well-lit public places bustling with people for initial encounters and share plans and location with trusted friends or family; trust your instincts if anything feels amiss, step away without hesitation.

A Collective Responsibility

The Directorate emphasized that true love honors safety above all and cautioned against letting “haste or romance” cloud one’s judgment.

“Never let haste or romance cloud your judgment, for true love honors safety above all. Together, let us nurture not only romance but a secure Kenya where every heart beats freely and protected,” DCI warned.
