The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has taken quick steps to ensure the safety and continuity of services in the wake of announcements by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) of a planned industrial action.
In a press release dated 16th February 2026, KCAA has confirmed that it has put in place measures for the continuity of its operations.
“KCAA remains fully committed to its statutory mandate of ensuring the safety, security, and regulatory oversight of Kenya’s civil aviation sector,” said Emile N. Arao, Director General of KCAA.
“Critical aviation safety and air navigation functions remain operational and are being managed in accordance with established contingency protocols,” Arao added.
The Authority made it clear that critical aviation services will not be affected in any way while union members are preparing to take industrial action.
The Authority stated that the main aim of the actions is to ensure that safety standards are not affected and air travel is not disrupted.
“KCAA will continue to provide timely updates as necessary,” Arao said, highlighting the commitment of the regulator to maintain transparency during times of potential disruption.

KCAA emphasized the engagement with the concerned stakeholders, saying that all the steps are taken in line with the existing labor laws and court orders.
“We reiterate our respect for due process and remain open to constructive dialogue,” Arao said.
The authority said that the dialogue with the KAWU officials is still ongoing to address the issues without compromising the safety of operations.
The proactive measures taken by the KCAA ensure that the air navigation services and other essential aviation services are under constant surveillance, even in the wake of the planned strike.

The public is being reassured that the safety oversight of the aviation industry will not be compromised under the contingency plan.
This is because the message from KCAA assures the public that the regulatory oversight of the industry is still intact and that the interests of the passengers are catered to as much as possible.
Arao concluded: “Our priority remains the safety and security of Kenya’s aviation sector while upholding operational continuity during industrial actions. The Authority is committed to balancing labor concerns with its regulatory responsibilities.”
