Mudavadi’s Office Announces Vacancy for National Research Fund Chairperson

The Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has announced a vacancy for the position of Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Research Fund (NRF).

In a notice issued by the Selection Panel, suitably qualified Kenyans have been invited to apply for the position.

“The National Research Fund (NRF) is established under the Science, Technology and Innovation Act No. 28 of 2013. The functions of the Fund are as specified under the Act.”

“The Selection Panel invites applications from suitably qualified Kenyans to serve as Chairperson of the National Research Fund Board of Trustees,” read the notice.

NRF Chairperson Position

The vacancy is for:

Position: Chairperson

Number of Posts: One (1)

The NRF plays a key role in mobilizing and allocating funds to support research in science, technology and innovation in Kenya.

Requirements for Appointment

According to the notice, a person shall qualify for appointment as Chairperson if he or she:

  • Is a citizen of Kenya
  • Holds a doctorate degree from a university recognized in Kenya
  • Has at least fifteen (15) years’ experience in leadership and management of public or private institutions
  • Has knowledge and proven experience in finance and investment
  • Has a proven track record in fundraising and resource mobilization
  • Is not a serving public servant
  • Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution

Clearance Requirements for Shortlisted Candidates

The Selection Panel noted that all shortlisted applicants will be required to provide original documents during the interview stage, including:

  • National Identity Card or Passport
  • Academic and professional certificates and transcripts
  • Commission for University Education clearance letter for degrees obtained outside Kenya

In addition, shortlisted candidates will be required to present valid clearance certificates from:

  • Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
  • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
  • Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
  • Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
  • A registered Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)

Interested candidates are required to submit their application together with a detailed Curriculum Vitae, copies of academic and professional certificates, transcripts, National Identity Card or Passport, relevant testimonials, and names and contacts of three referees.

Applications may also be hand-delivered to the NRF Offices, 3rd Floor, NACOSTI Plaza between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on working days.

A scanned and signed copy of the application must also be emailed to: selectionpanel@nrf.go.ke

The envelope should be clearly marked:

“APPLICATION FOR CHAIRPERSON OF THE NATIONAL RESEARCH FUND.”

Application Deadline

All applications must reach the National Research Fund on or before March 10, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. (EAT).
