Ida Odinga Reveals She Is Worth Ksh 500 Million

Spouse to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and the nominee for Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Dr. Ida Odinga has declared her net worth.

Speaking before the Parliamentary Committee on Defence during her vetting for the role on Friday, February 20, 2026, Mama Ida stated that her net worth is Ksh 500 million.

“There are things that belong to me, Ida, and there are things that also belong to the Odinga family. My net worth is Ksh 500 million,” said Ida.

Ida Odinga Promises to Champion Environmental Protection at UNEP

During her vetting, Ida promised that she would help stop the destruction of the environment upon assuming the role of Kenya’s Ambassador to the UNEP.

“Honourable Chair and members, I believe that this is a critical moment when we are presented with an opportunity to shape our environmental future.  And if approved by this esteemed committee, I intend to do my level best to help stop killing our planet.  I will pursue every specific and set priorities,” said Ida.

Odinga said her years of service, leadership, and advocacy had prepared her for the responsibility.

“The experience I have gained, the knowledge I have acquired, the skills I have sharpened, and above all, the passion and inner resolve that guide me have collectively strengthened my readiness to serve and champion the interests of our nation and the region,” she said.

She described service to one’s country as the highest calling and expressed confidence in her readiness to safeguard environmental sustainability for future generations.

Ida Pledges to Advance Kenya’s Environmental Agenda

At the same time, the widow of the late former Prime Minister highlighted Kenya’s leadership during last year’s United Nations Environmental Assembly, where the country sponsored and guided the passage of three key resolutions.

These included promoting sustainability solutions through sports for a resilient planet, enhancing the environmental sustainability of artificial intelligence systems, and addressing the environmental dimension of antimicrobial resistance.

To ensure effective implementation, she said she intends to establish specialised working groups bringing together multiple stakeholders to drive the agenda forward.

Ida’s vetting comes a month after President William Ruto nominated her to the role on January 23, 2026.

President Ruto praised her qualifications and contributions, describing her as a distinguished educationist, a civic leader, and an acclaimed advocate for social justice and gender equity.
