According to reports, two of the victims were students from Emali Township traveling home for the half-term break when the crash occurred on Saturday afternoon.
Mombasa–Nairobi Highway Eyewitness Account
An eyewitness said poor visibility and the slippery road surface caused by ongoing rains in many parts of the country may have led to the accident.
Witnesses added that the collision was severe, leaving the vehicles extensively damaged.

Residents who responded to the incident said police struggled to coordinate rescue operations.
They added that the lack of immediately available emergency response ambulances complicated the efforts.
Sultan Hamud Hospital Statement
Officials at Sultan Hamud Hospital said several other passengers sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
One of the survivors, a female student from Ukia Girls High School, is reported to be in critical condition.

Traffic Jam
The accident caused a major traffic snarl-up along the road section.
Police officers were deployed to manage the congestion and restore normal traffic flow.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the cause of the accident as investigations continue.
