Babu Takes Legal Action Against PS Omollo for Allegedly Sponsoring Airport Violence

Share

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has accused Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo of allegedly sponsoring violence at Kisumu International Airport and says he will pursue legal action over the incident.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Sunday Live show, Owino claimed that more than 200 individuals were mobilised to attack him and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and disrupt their planned trip to Kakamega.

“We were supposed to go via Kisumu International Airport… yesterday, Raymond Omollo is the one who sponsored goons to access Kisumu International Airport, waiting for Babu Owino and Edwin Sifuna,” Owino said.

He alleged that the group was armed with crude weapons and had gathered with the intention of causing harm and blocking their movement.

According to the legislator, “Over 200 youths were mobilised. They were armed and strategically placed to cause chaos and stop us from travelling.”

Claim of Fatality During the Incident

Owino further claimed that one person died during the chaos and linked the death to the alleged attackers.

He said the family of a man identified as George Olwandi had addressed the media regarding the incident.

“One life was lost because of that violence. The family has already spoken. This is something that cannot be ignored,” he stated.

However, official confirmation regarding the circumstances of the reported death had not been immediately issued by authorities at the time of publication.

I Texted Raymond Omollo

The Embakasi East MP said he directly reached out to Omollo following the incident.

“I texted Raymond Omollo and told him that what he was doing was immature and unacceptable,” Owino said, adding that he had warned the PS against what he termed as attempts to engineer political clashes.

He also questioned how individuals involved in the chaos allegedly accessed tear gas canisters.

“Where did these citizens get teargas from if it is not from the police?” he posed.

Arrest of Relative and Broader Claims

Owino further alleged that the airport incident followed the arrest of his brother-in-law, who he claimed was later released and dropped off in Machakos after public pressure.

He described the violence as part of a wider pattern in which unemployed youths were being exploited for political purposes.

“Our young people are being misused. They are paid small amounts of money to destroy property and attack leaders,” he claimed.

Legal Action Looming

The lawmaker said he intends to take legal action against Omollo, arguing that the role of the Interior Ministry is to protect citizens, not intimidate them.

“The role of the Interior PS is to take care of citizens and ensure their safety, not to sponsor violence against leaders,” Owino said.

As of now, there has been no public response from PS Omollo regarding the allegations.
