The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued another eviction notice targeting roadside traders along sections of the Thika Superhighway, just days after demolishing structures in Githurai as part of an ongoing crackdown on encroachment into road reserves.

In a notice dated Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the Authority directed traders operating at the Kihunguro, Allsops, and Delview sections on both sides of the busy highway to remove their goods and structures within seven days of the notice.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify all roadside traders operating along the Thika Superhighway at Kihunguro (both bounds), Allsops (both bounds), and Delview sections to remove and clear their wares from the road reserve within seven (7) days from the date of this notice,” the statement read in part.

KeNHA said the directive is intended to pave the way for the construction of designated roadside stations aimed at enhancing corridor functionality, improving safety standards, and easing traffic congestion along the affected sections.

The Authority noted that the initiative forms part of its broader road safety improvement programme designed to reduce accidents, restore order within road reserves, and ensure smooth and uninterrupted traffic flow along major highways.

Authority Moves to Demolish Structures in Githurai 45 Along Road Reserves

The latest move comes shortly after KeNHA oversaw demolitions in Githurai targeting structures that had encroached on road reserves.

The Thika Superhighway serves as a critical transport corridor connecting Nairobi to surrounding residential areas and satellite towns, including Kasarani, Roysambu, Ruiru, Juja, and Thika.

The recent demolitions in Githurai were specifically carried out in Githurai 45 along the Thika Superhighway.

KeNHA executed the operation overnight on February 18, which continued into the morning of February 19, 2026, flattening hundreds of makeshift stalls, kiosks, and roadside structures that encroached on the road reserve. This affected over 1,000 traders, many of whom reported heavy financial losses as their livelihoods were disrupted.

Prior to that, KeNHA had issued a seven-day notice on February 9, 2026, warning traders to vacate the encroached areas. The Authority has firmly defended the action as lawful and necessary, stating it paves the way for infrastructure improvements, including the construction of a modern bus park and better traffic flow and safety along the busy Thika Superhighway.
