The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested four members of the Gatundu North Constituency NG-CDF Committee over allegations of extorting Ksh 300,000 from a contractor in exchange for approving a pending payment of Ksh 9.1 million.

Those arrested are Annah Mugure Njoroge, Susan Wanjiru Muchiri, Stephen Waititu Mungai, and James Kibe Ngige.

According to the Commission, the suspects were apprehended on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, during an operation mounted at Karure Primary School.

They were allegedly caught receiving Ksh 250,000 from the contractor as part of the demanded bribe.

The four were escorted to the Integrity Centre for processing before being booked at Kilimani Police Station.

Alleged Demand to Clear Ksh 9.1 Million Payment

Preliminary investigations indicate that the contractor had completed three projects at Karure Primary School:

  • Construction of a modern kitchen
  • Levelling and landscaping works
  • Renovation and uplifting of an administration block and six classrooms

The works were completed on January 31, 2026, after which the contractor formally requested payment amounting to Ksh 9.1 million.

However, the committee members allegedly blocked the payment, citing unresolved issues.

On February 23, 2026, the complainant reportedly met three of the suspects, who demanded Ksh 300,000 in order not to raise objections to the payment.

Bail and Ongoing Investigations

Following their arrest, the suspects were released on cash bail of Ksh 40,000 each pending completion of investigations.

In a statement, the Commission confirmed its stance against corruption, stating:

“The Commission reiterates its commitment to tackling bribery at service delivery points and enhancing the quality of public services for all citizens.”

Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with the EACC expected to forward its findings to the relevant prosecutorial authorities upon completion.
