The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has issued a five-day weather forecast following heavy rainfall witnessed in most parts of the country.
The forecast, released on Friday, February 27, 2026, for the period from Saturday, February 28, to March 4, comes as the month of March begins, ushering in preparations for the long rainy season, which runs from March to May.
According to the latest forecast, rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country.
Isolated heavy rainfall events are likely to occur in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South-eastern Lowlands, the Coast, Northeastern, and Northwestern Kenya.
In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley regions, Kenya Met predicts that mornings will be dominated by rain in a few places, while afternoons will experience showers and thunderstorms in several areas during the forecast period. Nights will experience showers in a few places.
Areas within these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley region, which includes Nairobi and its environs, mornings are likely to experience a chance of light rain during the five-day forecast period, while afternoons will be dominated by showers and thunderstorms in several areas. Nights will experience showers in several places throughout the forecast period.
Other areas within this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties.
For the Northwestern region, comprising Turkana and Samburu counties, mornings are expected to experience rain in a few places, while afternoons will have showers and thunderstorms in a few areas.
Nights will experience showers in a few places.
In the Northeastern region, covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, mornings will experience rain in a few places, while afternoons will have showers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period.
Nights will experience showers and thunderstorms during the entire period.

In the South-eastern Lowlands region, which includes Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, mornings will be dominated by rain in a few places during the forecast period.
Afternoons will experience showers and thunderstorms in a few areas, while nights will mostly have showers in a few places.
In the Coast region, covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as the Tana Delta, mornings will mostly experience a chance of showers in a few places, except on March 3 and March 4 when sunny intervals are expected.
Afternoons will experience showers in a few places, except on March 2 and March 3, when sunny intervals are expected. Nights will be mostly cloudy, with occasional showers in some areas.
