KWS Issues Advisory to All National Park Visitors Amid Heavy Rain

Share

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has issued a public notice warning visitors about the impact of ongoing heavy rainfall on national parks and protected areas across the country.

The advisory highlights serious safety risks, including flooded and impassable roads, slippery surfaces, and sections that have been temporarily cut off due to rising water levels.

In the notice titled “Heavy Rains Advisory for National Park Visitors,” KWS cautions that “following ongoing heavy rainfall across parts of Kenya, several roads within national parks and protected areas are currently flooded, impassable, slippery, or temporarily cut off.”

The warning comes as different regions continue to experience sustained downpours, affecting both infrastructure and wildlife movement.

Visitors Urged to Avoid Risky Travel

KWS has emphasized the need for caution, urging tourists and local visitors to reconsider travel plans to affected park sections until conditions improve.

“Avoid travel to affected park sections until conditions improve,” the notice states.

The agency further advises visitors to “strictly follow ranger guidance and posted signage” while inside park premises.

Of particular concern are flooded roads and swollen rivers, which pose significant danger to motorists and tour operators.

The notice clearly warns: “Do not attempt to cross flooded roads or swollen rivers.”

Increased Wildlife Movement Expected

Heavy rains often influence wildlife behavior, leading to increased movement as animals search for safer ground or fresh grazing areas.

KWS has therefore called on visitors to “exercise caution as wildlife movement may increase during heavy rains.”

This reminder highlights the dual responsibility of ensuring human safety while protecting wildlife and habitats.

In conclusion, KWS confirmed that “these precautionary measures support national safety priorities and sustainable environmental management.”

Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant, plan travel responsibly, and prioritize safety at all times as the heavy rains continue.
