TSC Sends Notice to Unemployed Registered Teachers

Share

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has launched a nationwide data update exercise targeting registered teachers who are currently not employed by the Commission.

The initiative, announced in early March 2026, aims to refresh the Commission’s database and support effective workforce planning, as well as to help establish the actual demand and supply of qualified teachers across Kenya.

In a public notice and consent advisory dated March 4, TSC emphasized that this exercise is not a recruitment drive but a data-collection exercise meant to inform teacher recruitment policy and deployment planning.

Teachers registered with TSC but not on the Commission’s payroll are urged to participate before March 16, 2026, at midnight.

What Teachers Need to Do

According to the official portal, teachers should visit the TSC online portal under the “Careers” section at www.tsc.go.ke or directly via tsconline.tsc.go.ke/profile/teacher-profile- to update their profiles.

Required details include personal information and professional qualifications, and participants must consent to the collection and processing of their data, which will be handled in line with the Data Protection Act and the Commission’s Privacy Notice.

“We are undertaking this exercise to ensure that our records are accurate, up-to-date, and reflective of the actual pool of qualified teachers who are available for future placement,” said a TSC spokesperson, stressing that the update does not guarantee employment but will inform future workforce strategies.

A Broader Context

The exercise comes at a time when the education sector has been grappling with imbalances in teacher deployment.

Recent reports indicate tens of thousands of registered teachers remain without formal placement, even as some counties face acute shortages.

TSC’s data update is expected to help planners and policymakers design more responsive recruitment strategies in the face of evolving educational needs, including the expansion of secondary education and the roll-out of new curricula.
