Renowned Migori businessman Oketch Salah has clarified whether he intends to vie for a political seat in the 2027 General Election.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Nation, Salah addressed speculation about his political ambitions following his involvement in charity activities across the country.
When asked whether he would run for office next year, Salah dismissed the possibility, saying he has no plans to seek any elective position.
In response, Salah said his current focus is on supporting the leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
“I am not running for any office. For now, I am focused on helping Dr Oburu Odinga steer ODM in line with Baba’s wishes, while also supporting President Ruto’s re-election. I believe he will succeed, Inshallah,” Salah said.
He added that his efforts are currently centred on strengthening the party and supporting its leadership.
At the same time, Oketch Salah dismissed claims that he has been receiving funds from the government or other sponsors to run ODM activities.

He stated that the resources he has been using to support the party’s political programmes are entirely his own.
“The resources I have been using are mine. I have not asked the party or any other person for money to fund these programmes. These are my contributions to a party I love and respect in honour of Baba Raila Odinga,” said the businessman.
Salah said his commitment to the party comes from a promise he made to the former Prime Minister while they were in India, adding that he has remained faithful to that pledge.
He added that he supports the ODM party out of loyalty to Raila Odinga’s legacy, noting that the party is part of the former Prime Minister’s life’s work and that he feels a responsibility to continue supporting and strengthening it.
The businessman’s clarification on running for a political seat comes after speculation that he intends to vie for the Suna West parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
The seat is currently held by Suna West MP Peter Masara, who is reportedly not expected to defend it in the upcoming polls.
Oketch Salah has been in the spotlight since the death of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, claiming that he was with the ODM leader during his final moments.

He has also appeared at several ODM rallies, particularly at events held at the historic Lindi Grounds that were led by Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga.
However, his political activities within the party have drawn criticism from some ODM leaders.
Two senior leaders of the ODM party, Homa Bay Governor and party national chairperson Gladys Wanga and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, have publicly criticised or distanced themselves from the Migori businessman over his political activities linked to the party.
Wanga said Salah’s meetings, statements, and political activities do not represent the party.
On the other hand, Junet warned Salah against printing ODM-branded merchandise bearing the image of President William Ruto.
