The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued an alternative route following flooding and deposition of silt on the Mai Mahiu–Suswa–Narok (B7) Road.
In a notice dated Saturday, March 7, 2026, the authority said it is currently working to reopen the affected section of the road.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify motorists that earlier today the Mai Mahiu–Suswa–Narok (B7) Road experienced flooding and deposition of silt at Kedong Ranch near Suswa,” read part of the notice.
According to KeNHA, motorists who have not yet commenced their journeys are advised to consider using the Ngong–Suswa Road as an alternative route while the affected section is being reopened.
The authority also advised motorists to avoid driving through flooded areas and to strictly follow instructions from police officers and traffic marshals to prevent being washed away or getting stuck in silt deposits.

Additionally, KeNHA stated that as the area continues to receive heavy rainfall, motorists should exercise extreme caution when driving through various sections of the road, particularly between Naivasha ICD (Km 14) and Suswa Ranch (Km 39).
Further, KeNHA assured all road users that it is working around the clock to restore normal traffic flow and ensure motorists’ safety.
The Mai Mahiu–Suswa–Narok (B7) Road is a 114 km bitumen-standard highway that serves as a vital transport corridor in Kenya. It connects Nairobi to Narok via Suswa and provides access to the Maasai Mara, Western Kenya, and the South Rift region.
The road is a key route for motorists, freight transport, and travelers, and also serves as a strategic corridor for international transit to countries such as Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
It passes through towns and agricultural areas, including Kedong Ranch and Suswa, and is frequently used by commercial trucks and long-distance buses.
Sections of the B7 Road are prone to flooding and silt deposition during heavy rains, particularly in low-lying areas, which can disrupt traffic and require alternative routes.

As the country continues to experience heavy rainfall in most parts of Kenya, including Nairobi, the Kenya Red Cross has issued safety guidelines to help residents protect themselves during floods.
The humanitarian organisation advised Kenyans to evacuate immediately to higher ground in the event of flooding and to switch off electricity at the main switch if their homes become flooded.
Residents have been urged to avoid driving, parking, or conducting activities along streams and rivers during floods. They should also stay away from downed power lines and muddy waters where power cables may have fallen.
In flooded areas, people are advised to use a stick to test the depth of water and never drive over a flooded bridge.
Additionally, the organisation encouraged the public to stay updated by listening to radio and television broadcasts for information on rainfall and flooded areas.
Kenya Red Cross further reminded the public that emergency assistance can be accessed through the 1199 emergency hotline.
