The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has warned that heavy rainfall is expected in several parts of the country after flooding was reported in various areas, including Nairobi, which was among the hardest hit on Friday, March 6, 2026.
In its forecast issued on Saturday, March 7, 2026, Kenya Met outlined regions likely to experience heavy rainfall over the next five days, from March 7 to March 11.
According to the weatherman, rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country, with isolated heavy rainfall events likely in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South-eastern Lowlands, the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley regions, mornings are expected to experience rainfall in a few places, while afternoons will be characterised by showers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period. Nights are also likely to experience showers in a few areas.
Counties in these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi and its surrounding areas, the department said mornings will mostly be cloudy with occasional sunny intervals.
However, rainfall is expected in a few places on some days, including Saturday, March 7, and Monday, March 9.
Afternoons in the region are expected to experience showers and thunderstorms in several places, while nights will likely record showers in a few areas.
Other counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.
For the South-eastern Lowlands, which include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, Kenya Met predicts that mornings will experience rainfall in a few places, except on Tuesday, March 10, when sunny intervals are expected.
Afternoons in the region will mostly experience showers and thunderstorms in several areas, while nights are expected to record showers in a few places.

In the Coast region, which includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties as well as the Tana Delta, mornings and afternoons are expected to experience showers in a few places, while nights will likely record occasional showers.
In the North-western region, covering Turkana and Samburu counties, mornings are expected to experience rainfall in a few areas, while afternoons and nights will record occasional showers.
Meanwhile, in the North-eastern region, which includes Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties, rainfall is expected in a few places during the mornings throughout the forecast period. Afternoons are likely to experience showers and thunderstorms in some areas, while nights will record showers in a few places.
