Azimio Coalition Expels Several Key Figures in Latest Changes

Share

The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has announced wide-ranging changes in its leadership structures, expelling several prominent individuals in its governing organs, as well as appointing a new parliamentary leader.

In a press statement released for immediate distribution, the coalition revealed that a joint meeting of the Coalition Council and the National Coalition Executive Council resolved that a number of leaders had ceased to be members of the coalition’s top decision-making organs.

The statement indicated that the decision followed the leaders’ appointment to public office or their association with competing political coalitions, which the coalition said made their continued membership in the leadership organs untenable.

“The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party today held a Joint Meeting of the Coalition Council and the National Coalition Executive Council and resolved that the following persons have, by virtue of their appointment to public office and/or having joined competing political coalitions, ceased to be members of the Azimio Coalition Council and the Azimio National Coalition Executive Council.”

Leaders Removed From Coalition Council

Among those listed as no longer members of the Azimio Coalition Council are Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, nominated Senator Sabina Chege, Abdi Noor Omar Farah, and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed.

The statement explicitly listed them as individuals who are no longer part of the coalition council structure.

1) Ali Hassan Joho;

2) Sabina Chege;

3) Abdi Noor Omar Farah; and

4) Junet Mohammed.

The statement read:

1) Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya;

2) Adan Keynan Wehliye;

3) David Pkosing;

4) Mishi Mboko;

5) Abdul Haji;

6) Junet Mohamed;

7) James Opiyo Wandayi;

8) Isabella Wangechi Githinji;

9) Caroline Wanjiru Karugu; and

The coalition indicated that the affected positions would soon be filled as part of a broader restructuring plan.

Junet Mohamed Removed as Parliamentary Leader

In a separate but related decision, the coalition resolved to terminate Junet Mohamed’s position as leader of the Azimio Parliamentary Group in the National Assembly.

The announcement signals a significant leadership shift within the opposition bloc in Parliament.

“The Meeting further resolved to terminate with immediate effect the appointment of Junet Mohamed as the Leader of the Azimio Coalition Parliamentary Group and in the National Assembly,” Azimio said.

Following the decision, the coalition named Rarieda MP Caroli Omondi as the new parliamentary group leader.

“Caroli Omondi to be the Leader of the Azimio Coalition Party Parliamentary Group and in the National Assembly with immediate effect,” the coalition revealed.

The press statement was signed by Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, signaling the coalition’s intent to reorganize its leadership amid evolving political alignments.
